I need to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. I picked up a few of these little gems on clearance, so now I can let one or two go (presumably to good homes). Dragon Models has a specialty subsidiary (Cyber Hobby) that usually does more obscure subjects or limited release products. This one is part of their Golden Wings Series and is an FAW.21 (Fighter, All Weather) Sea Venom carrier-based Fighter: the variant that appeared in the largest numbers (167 built). There are about a half-dozen listings for this kit on eBay (many from overseas), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this to you very quickly.
Here is some of the information that I have found online about this spectacular kit:
The Dragon-Models.com site shows the dynamic box art and one of their full color posters that effectively point out the extensive features packed into this small kit. They also provide the following information about kit features and the Sea Venom:
- Newly tooled Blue Jay missile
- Newly designed crystal-clear canopy can be assembled open/closed
- Authentic Sea Venom scale model
- Wings can be assembled extended/folded
- Air intakes accurately represented
- Intricate fuselage for Sea Venom FAW.21
- Fuselage possesses metal-skinned appearance
- Delicate arresting hook can be shown stowed for flight or deployed for landing
- Intricate landing-gear bay included
- Landing gear can be assembled in either flying or taxiing positions
- Detailed cockpit interior includes pilot's seat and control panel
- Landing flaps can be displayed extended/retracted
- Twin-boom tail made by slide-mold technology
- Realistic jet exhausts reproduced
- Folding-wing mechanism rendered w/fine detail
Cyber Hobby continues to impress with its latest 1/72 scale release - a de Havilland Sea Venom FAW.21 aircraft distinguished by the inclusion of a Blue Jay missile. This British aircraft was a jet fighter capable of operating from aircraft carriers, and thus it had folding wings, a strengthened undercarriage, modified canopy to permit underwater ejection, and a tailhook. The Sea Venom operated as an interceptor with the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm. This Cyber Hobby kit represents the production version known as FAW.21 (Fighter, All-Weather), which first flew in April 1954. Production of the FAW.21 ceased in 1957. This model aircraft carries a Blue Jay (also known as Firestreak) missile, a type that entered service in 1957 as Britain's first ever air-to-air missile.
This 1/72 scale kit is the fruit of brand new toolings produced earlier for Item No.5096. However, it now features a completely new Blue Jay missile under the wings, which adds much visual impact to the model. Naturally, the whole kit's extremely well engineered to support convenient and easy assembly, including numerous parts produced with the aid of slide molds. Panel lines are sharply and accurately delineated using laser crafting, while the streamlined form of the fuselage and twin-boom tail is realistically captured in its entirety. Cartograf has also supplied a range of beautiful marking options to finish off this Sea Venom. This new kit of the Sea Venom armed with British first-generation missiles adds muscle to Cyber Hobby's aircraft kit collection!
Scalemates.com has a listing showing that this is a 2012 release based on a new 2011 tooling, so it is very state-of-the-art. There is a link to a set of instructions for the parent kit (CHC #5096) and links to tons of aftermarket parts and references for your build.
Scott Van Aken did an excellent Preview on the modelingmadness.com site that starts with a development history of the Sea Venom. He shows the sprue layout and the Cartograf decals and describes the superb detailing and options packed into this remarkable kit. In summary, he simply says: “
Those who have an affinity for the FAA will be very pleased with this kit. It adds something a bit different from the other FAA aircraft of the time.
”
Volker Helms did an extensive First Look Review on the German-language ipmsdeutschland.de site that has a detailed history of the De Havilland Venom aircraft family. We also get the best look at the kit components with over a dozen close-up photos of the plastic and metal parts, along with the amazing Cartograf decals. He also notes that: “
there is a complete engine including air inlet which consists of ten components. The cockpit is contemporary detailed. cyber-hobby supplies separate side, transverse and elevators. Therefore, there are sharp trailing edges here.
”
There is a very short (<90 seconds) Unboxing Video on YouTube by
emodelsuk
that simply pulls out the parts for a quick look. There is not much narration but I believe I heard someone doing dishes in the background.
This kit is in a nicely decorated 13” x 7.5” x 2” box. As you can see from the pictures, the box is still in the original shrink wrap, so it is
factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready.
This item contains an injection molded plastic model kit with grey and clear plastic parts, photo etched metal parts and excellent
Cartograf
decals to build this carrier-based variant of the de Havilland Venom jet aircraft. It requires paint and cement to complete as shown. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays the winning bid and for a limited time, I am offering this kit with
Flat Rate Shipping in the US!
No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions for combined shipping. Good luck!
Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder).
As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
