Description
Airfix A04054 1/72 English Electric Lightning F.2A British Cold War JetThis auction is for a single open (i.e. box tapes are cut) kit as shown. This kit epitomizes the modern Airfix model kit. External detail is both extensive and restrained. The cockpit is extensively detailed, with a decent tub, a four-piece ejection seat, instrument panel and control stick, though instrument faces are decals, and there's a pilot figure who, while he retains the old Airfix "stock" pose, is nicely detailed and takes paint well. Intake and exhaust plumbing is present so you can't just look in one end of the fuselage and out the other, and though the rudder's attached, the ailerons are separate parts. Landing gear, doors and wells are all well-detailed (well, well-enough; the gear wells are bland) and the air brakes are separate bits. The canopy is two-piece so it can be displayed open and there's an optional nose plug ring to cover the intake when the aircraft's at rest on the ground. And there are two nicely-done Firestreak missiles on its cheeks. In short, it looks like a Lightning. Decals (3rd picture), in new condition, provide markings for a 19 Sqdn RAF ship in Germany in late 1974, in dark green over silver camouflage (see 1st picture and upper aircraft, 5th picture), and a 92 Sqdn RAF aircraft, also in Germany, in 1972, in overall silver (bottom aircraft, 5th picture). The box is in new condition beyond the usual light dishing of an Airfix kit box. This kit's lived its entire life in a smoke-free environment. Build it!
