Xtrakit XK72003 1/72 de Havilland Sea Vixen FAW.2/D3 Cold War British JetThis auction's for one open (purchased new that way from Hannant's) kit as shown, with all components safely within their bags. The FAW.2 Sea Vixen entered service during the early 1960s and is the main variant to see service. The Xtrakit model is their 2008 reboxing of the MPM kit from earlier that year and is typical of modern MPM kits. There are no locating studs, external detail is fine and engraved, the cockpit area is well-detailed, the landing gear wells are blocked-in, and some smaller bits (seats, nosewheel, and a couple of little bits) are resin. External stores consist of drop tanks. The canopy is in two pieces and can be positioned open, and it looks like the WSO's access can be modeled open, too. There's a sheet of masks for the canopies but the kit instructions make NO reference to 'em at all... ;-) the kit's wings aren't designed to be built folded, but the outer wing sections attach right on the fold line so scratch-building the fold mechanism would be easier than it might seem. There are two forward canopies - one's an extra, from MPM's earlier FAW.1 kit. All told, this builds into a convincing Sea Vixen and well-represents the last of Britain's twin-boom jets. Decals, in new condition, provide markings for two aircraft but don't identify their units; one is a FAW.2 in dark grey over white camouflage and the other, a D3 drone in yellow over red. The box and contents are in new condition and the kit's lived its entire life in a smoke-free environment. Build it!
