These Lift-the-Flap Language Cards were developed by infant researcher Dr. Robert Titzer, the creator of the award-winning Your Baby Can Learn program used by millions of families worldwide. These word cards focus on introducing literacy skills including learning to read individual words, phrases, and sentences.
An abundance of research shows that the early language environment has lasting impacts on the child’s later learning. These 40 all-new lift-the-flap word cards focus on important areas of language development. Volumes 1 and 2 (12 cards) are designed to help children learn their first written words and the meanings of those words. Volume 3 (6 cards) focuses on helping your child learn short written phrases and sentences. Volume 4 (6 cards) gives your child practice forming higher-level categories and introduces some new written vocabulary words. Volume 5 (16 cards) has around 200 rhyming words which may be used to help your child learn some analytical phonics.
The front of the cards shows the same words with different fonts and colors. This side of the cards is designed to help the child learn that words’ shapes are more important than their colors, specific fonts, or background colors. Once children learn this concept, they can learn new words at a faster rate. The back of each card has a photo and a descriptive sentence demonstrating that word's meaning. You can use the descriptive sentences on these cards as a model for how to describe objects and actions that capture your baby’s attention.
Each of the five sets of cards included is designed to focus on important language areas for your child. These cards are part of a color-coded learning system.
